Does salycilic acid used in acne treatments make skin lighter- does it make it darker?

I'm african American with dark brown skin if that makes a difference.Does salycilic acid used in acne treatments make skin lighter- does it make it darker?
I've never noticed a difference in skin tone, but it can make hair lighter. I wondered where these blond highlights around my face were coming from and it ended up being the salisylic acid!Does salycilic acid used in acne treatments make skin lighter- does it make it darker?
I don't think it can make skin lighter. Salicylic acid unclogs pores to prevent lesions and promotes skin peeling to bring out new skin cells. The only side effects in using salicylic acid is dryness of skin and mild irritation which can be dealt with by decreasing the frequency of use. If irritation persists, then you have to stop using it and see your dermatologist.
well if its a stronger acidity than it can temporarily make it lighter.

I've noticed this with my boyfriend who has darker skin and it makes his skin lighter but just temporarily
